Our Mission

The purpose of Winter Haven Christian School is to assist parents in developing their children to be strong in mind, spirit, and body, using Christ as their example and teaching the principles found in God's Holy Word, the Bible.

Academics

Curriculum

It is the desire of the school to provide a course of study which will produce spiritually strong Christians, while providing the finest of academic training.  A Christian, Bible-based curriculum called A Beka, has been selected as the primary course of study because it helps us to accomplish those goals.  This curriculum has been developed and refined over a period of more than 45 years.  The content of every textbook is built on the foundation of God’s word.  Over 10,000 Christian schools, representing over 850,000 students, plus 200,000 home school families worldwide, use A Beka.  However, other materials are supplemented where appropriate to meet specific needs of the students.  Seventh and eighth grades also use a Lifeway Bible curriculum called “Character Quest” and “Survival Quest”.

Enrichment

Students at WHCS also participate weekly in all of the following special programs:

Chapel Services – WHCS welcomes speakers from local Bible-believing churches, Christian organizations, or strong Christians in occupations other than ministry.   Preschool through second grade meets at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday; third grade through fifth grade meets at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and middle school chapel (grades 6-8) meets at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Computers – WHCS students learn age appropriate computer skills in our state of the art computer center in our Media Center.

Music – WHCS students receive vocal training and have the opportunity to be a part of our hand bell choir through our music program.  All students in grade K5 through 8th grade participate in our music performances, held two times a year.

Art – In an era where most schools are cutting their art programs, WHCS students learn the fundamentals of drawing and sketching in a weekly art class.

Physical Education – WHCS students learn the fundamentals and participate in age appropriate games and activities.

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) – Students in 5th grade take part in the nationally recognized D.A.R.E. program.  This program is taught by a local police officer who is a Christian believer and has his own children in Christian Schools.
